Who We Are?

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping change and empower a child life. We offer free camps and programs for children with Autism, underserved youth, and their families.

Our vision is to respect every individual regardless of the differences between us. We hope to build confidence and self-esteem and forge leadership skills by establishing trust.

Our Mission

The Stream Of Life Charitable Society is animated by the idea that all people should have access to books, and thinking through books; and that this can be accomplished by creating libraries that allow people to borrow books at no cost. We are concerned with building a library movement that promotes libraries that welcome all and provide an inclusive space for members to come together to articulate their ideas and issues.

Our Vision

We strive for an equitable and thoughtful society by expanding access to books and by promoting critical and imaginative thinking. Our goal is to build a society characterized by increasing freedom to introspect, become self-aware, debate and express ourselves.

Why We Need Free Libraries

We believe libraries are the fuel for imagination, a sanctuary for questioning voices, and catalysts for change. They are the Oxygen for thinking minds. And they should be free to harbour and nourish free thought.

Book vans are stocked with a diverse collection of books, including fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, reference materials, and children’s literature. In addition to books, these mobile libraries may also carry educational resources such as magazines, newspapers, and digital media like e-books, audiobooks, and educational DVDs.

Many modern book vans are equipped with computers, tablets, and internet access to provide digital library services. This allows users to access online resources, participate in e-learning, and use digital tools for research and education. Some vans offer mobile Wi-Fi hotspots to help bridge the digital divide in rural areas.

The collection and services provided by a book van are often customized based on the community’s needs. For example, in agricultural regions, the van might carry books and resources related to farming techniques, animal husbandry, and rural development. Vans may also cater to specific groups such as school children, women’s groups, or marginalized communities, offering relevant educational and vocational materials.

Librarians

T he Stream Of Life Charitable Society’s Librarians play an important role, not just in running the library but in leading it from the front. They help our community learn what we are doing at the library and how we do it. They enable members of our community so that one day they can run the library themselves and take it forward.

The librarian knows everything about her collection and catalogs; how to manage it, how to select new books and bring them into the library etc. But she has a role and responsibilities beyond this. She must know how to attract and welcome the community into the library and how to engage with members. Since we are free libraries, situated in localities where most members are first generation readers, it’s sometimes challenging to communicate what we do, why we are inviting them and their children to the library, and why reading for pleasure and thinking is as important as school education. Our librarian plays an important role in doing this work along with The Stream Of Life Charitable Society’s Student Council. This includes walking door-to-door and speaking to local residents about the library and its various programs.
